Canada’s Aaron Brown showed excellent range at the University of Washington’s Indoor meet, Saturday, January 18th by running the world’s third and fifth fastest 60 metre and 200 metre times, respectively, so far in 2014. First he ran the 60m event in 6.59, and then he followed that up with a 200m win in 20.88. The 6.59 is a new personal best performance for the Toronto, Ontario native.

The 21-year-old, University of Southern California student owns a 100 metre personal best time of 10.05 from the June 15, 2013 meet that took place in Eugene, Oregon the Prefontaine Classic. He set his 200 metre personal best during the 2012 London Olympic Games, where he ran to a 20.42.

In his first year with UCLA he made the NCAA semifinals, running a 10.38. During the Pan American Games he won silver with the 4 x 100 metre relay team as well as bronze in the 100 metre final. During the Olympics he made it to the semifinals with his personal best, placing fourth.

So far, he has already competed in the 2009 IAAF World Youth Championships winning silver in the 100 metre event, 2010 IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships winning bronze in the 200 metre event and competed in the 2012 London Olympic Games as well as the 2013 IAAF World’s Track and Field Championships.

He ran a 10:46 100 metre race as a 17-year-old. That same year, he ran a 21:48 200 metre race. As a NCAA division one athlete in the Pac 12, he, so far in the 2013/2014 school year earned All-American status one each in the 100 and 200 metre events.  He owns one the Loker Stadium record for the fastest 100 metres run there, which he accomplished with a 10:07, his second-fastest result.

These early season high-level performances bodes well for Brown, being that 2014 is both a Commonwealth Games (Scotland) and IAAF World Track and Field Championships year, which will take place in Beijing, China. Expect more personal bests from Brown.
