Kangogo and Murage Win 2014 TC 10k

Kangogo_FlashKip Kangogo of Lethbridge, Alberta won his first race as a Canadian citizen today at the 2014 TC10k. He finished in 30 minutes and 11 seconds. He split 5k in 15:05. Second was Dancan Kasia from Etobicoke, ON who finished in 30:45. The third place finisher was Gilbert Kiptoo (Kenya) finishing third in 31:13. This race was Kangogo’s third TC10k win.Top British Columbian was David Jackson of Abbotsford, BC.  Jackson finished in 31:35. Jackson is coming off of a win at the BMO Sunshine Coast Half Marathon.

The women’s race was won by Kenyan Jane Murage, who is the defending champion. She finished in the time of 33:55. Murage, was going for the course record of 32:56; however, strong winds after the half-way point slowed her a little. She ran through 5k in 16:51. Second place went to Victoria’s Lemlem Bereket (Ogbasilassie) in her first ever 10k. Bereket has represented Canada internationally at the 800 metre distance. Bereket finish in 35:25, just ahead of multi-time winner Lucy Smith, who was the first master, she finisheMurage_Flashd in 33:39. Second master was Marilyn Arsenault of Victoria, who to exactly 36:00 on the clock. Bereket is not listed in the results as she run with a different competitors race bib on.

In the men’s masters category, Vctoria’s Jim Finlayson won in the time of 31:37. Second and third was a close finish with Mark Cryderman of Campbell River finishing in 34:35 while Vince Brotherston of Courtenay crossed the line in 34:53.
