The BC Cross Country Championships in Nanaimo on Saturday have attracted competitive fields from across BC, the Yukon, and beyond. The 527 entries include:

5 Rio Olympians
3 Reigning Canadian Cross Country Champions
2 Former Canadian Cross Country Champions
4 Sub-4 minute milers
The largest fields will be in the Open races, combining Junior, Senior and Masters, and incorporating university competition between UVIC, TWU, UBC and TRU. The mens field includes the 2015 Canadian Senior Cross Country Champion Ross Proudfoot from Ontario, now training in Victoria; the 2013 Canadian Senior Cross Country Champion Luc Bruchet; and the 2015 Canadian Masters Cross Country Champion Craig Odermatt. The womens field includes the 2015 Canadian Junior Cross Counry Champion Hannah Bennison, and the 2014 Canadian Youth Cross Country Champion Christina Sevsek.
At stake in the Open and Youth Championships is selection to represent BC at the 2016 Canadian Cross Country Championship, to be held in Kingston ON on November 26.
Across the age groups 21 of 24 reigning BC Champions are returning.
Action gets underway at Beban Park with the Age 9 Championship at 11:30am. The Open Womens race starts at 12:15pm, followed by the Open Mens race at 12:50pm. Competition concludes at 3:05pm with the Legion Youth Boys Championship.
