PSA: Run Wild Vancouver Aims to Top 2016 Fundraiser for Search and Rescue with 2017 Trail Running Calendar

October 26, 2016 0

runwild_flashRun Wild Vancouver is preparing to launch their second trail running calendar in support of local Search and Rescue. The 2016 calendar raised $15,800 net profits for volunteer-based organization North Shore Rescue (NSR); “We really appreciate the trail running community coming together to support NSR. Things like this really allow us to focus on our training and rescues instead of spending time fundraising.” John Blown, NSR

NSR is one of the oldest search and rescue teams in Canada and has been an active member of the community for 50 years. During this time the number of calls each year has gradually increased, making the need for continued funding essential. Over the past 50 years the team has been involved in more than 2500 search and rescue operations volunteering over 200,000 hours of effort.  This year, Run Wild Vancouver plans to expand its support to include other local Search and Rescue teams. The important role of SAR hit close to home for the trail running community this summer as it lost one of its own. The search for runner, Gordon Sagoo was called off August 23rd following a huge collaborative effort to find him in the Chilliwack trails.

The Run Wild Vancouver calendar project gives trail runners and local photographers an opportunity to showcase the beauty that BC trails have to offer. It’s these spectacular and highly accessible trails that attract more and more people into the backcountry every season, placing an increasingly high demand on Search and Rescue.

The new 2017 calendar will be available in many local running and outdoor stores come early December, but prior to that, Run Wild Vancouver will be hosting a fundraiser Burger and Beer night at the Narrows Pub in North Vancouver on Tuesday, November 15th. Advance tickets are $20 and can be purchased here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/burgers-and-beer-benefitting-search-and-rescue-tickets-28794482071

We’d be happy to schedule an interview of provide further details on the Run Wild Vancouver calendar project.  Happy trails.
