Once again the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon will be live streamed to the world this coming Sunday October 18.

A year ago viewers from no fewer than 115 countries watched Laban Korir of Kenya claim victory on the broadcast.

This year’s telecast begins at 8:15 a.m. Eastern time and can be found on both www.STWM.ca and www.athleticscanada.tv

Commentary of this IAAF Gold Label race will be provided by Tim Hutchings, Michael Doyle and Krista DuChene. The trio will sign off at 12:15 p.m. but the finish line camera will continue until the close of the race. And what a race it should be.

Korir is back to defend his title against a strong international field including compatriots Peter Some and Michael Kipyego. All three have run under 2 hours 7 minutes for the marathon distance. Some has the fastest personal best with an outstanding 2:05:38.

The course record is 2:07:05 set by Ethiopia’s Deressa Chimsa in 2013.

The Toronto women’s course record holder, Sharon Cherop (2:22:43) of Kenya leads a superb women’s field. She will have her hands full with 19 year old Ethiopian sensation, Shure Demise. The teen stunned the world with a clocking of 2:20:59 at the 2015 Dubai Marathon – an unofficial world junior record.

The race will also serve as the Canadian Championships with two time Olympian Eric Gillis and Canadian women’s record holder, Lanni Marchant, both chasing the Olympic qualifying standard.
