VICTORIA – Tickets are now available for the annual Victoria International Track Classic (VITC). The event will take place at Centennial Stadium on June 10th, 2015. This is an event you do not want to miss out on! It is your chance to witness local athletes, including our own UVic Vikes, competing against some of the best in the world in the final stop of the National Track League Canadian Series.
This event will host Olympians, International, and National level athletes who are looking to achieve qualifying standards for this year’s Pan-American Games hosted in Toronto. The athletes will also be looking to qualify for the 2015 World Championships hosted in Beijing, the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, World University Games in Korea, and the 2015 World Youth Championships in Columbia.
We have a strong lineup of competitors. UVic Vike standout Thomas Riva will toe the line in the 1500m and will be joined by the World Championship steeplechaser Matt Hughes. Canadian Olympians Hilary Stellingwerff and Melissa Bishop will be in the 1500m and 800m, respectively. The VITC 100m hurdles lineup is packed with all-stars including Angela White, Nikkita Holder, and Phylicia George.
“The Victoria International Track Classic is one of the final opportunities for Canadian athletes to qualify for the Pan American Games in Toronto so we expect quality fields and very competitive events,” stated Keith Butler, VITC Event Director. “Athletes are also competing for a share of the $100,000 National Track League prize purse so there is a lot on the line for the athletes at this year’s meet”
