The 2019 Canadian Cross Country Championships will be held at Clearbrook Park in Abbotsford, BC, just outside of Vancouver. The meet happens on Saturday, Nov. 30.
Defending champions Lucas Bruchet of Vancouver, BC and Genevieve Lalonde of Guelph, ON, both 2016 Rio Olympians, will be toeing the line against strong competition.
U16 – New for 2019
New for 2019 is a pilot project of adding the U16 age-category for both boys and girls. Until this edition, U18 was the youngest category. There will be individual, but no team awards for U16 categories.
Masters
The Canadian Masters Championships are open to all male and female masters (age 30+ on race day).
Male and female competitors will run in the same race. All master athletes, if a resident in Canada, must be members of Canadian Masters Athletics (CMA) by taking out a full masters membership of any Athletics Canada provincial affiliate. If a resident outside of Canada, Master athletes must be members of USATF or another World Masters Athletics (WMA) national affiliate.
Many of the fastest open runners are over 30-years-of-age and will choose to race in the open category.
The course
The course is primarily flat, however, at approximately 1.2km into the 2km course, there is a steep hill. Once runners have crested the hill, they will find a steep drop. There are approximately 12 soft and sharp turns or corners throughout. The finish straight and chute is approximately 50m in length on the grass.
If the weather remains dry, the footing is firm, grassy at the start and with mixed surface footpaths throughout.
