The University of Cincinnati track and field program closed out its time at the War Eagle Invitational Saturday afternoon with three more all-time Top 10 marks recorded on the final day of competition at Hutsell-Rosen Track on the Auburn campus. For the second day in a row, senior Alexis Anton posted a personal-best time, this time in the 800m run, as she and Sammy Hentz climbed higher in the event before Haisha Bisiolu upped her mark in the 200m dash in the final sprint of the day.
// HOT HALF
The women’s 800m run saw a trio of Bearcats race the half-mile event with all three posting personal-best times, including Anton and Hentz, who ran 2:10.37 and 2:10.44, respectively, to earn placements on the program’s all-time Top 10, while Madison Dunlap lowered her best time by over five seconds (5.32 seconds), running 2:17.73.
Anton, one day after running the #7 time in program history in the 1,500m run (4:38.06), came back and ran her second PR in as many days, this time lowering her all-time best by 0.50 seconds to move up to #3 in UC history. She was followed closely by Hentz, who recorded a PR for the second week in a row, this time shaving 0.90 seconds from her PR to move all the way up to #4. Collectively, the duo of Anton and Hentz ran the two fastest time at UC since 2012 (six years) when teammates Kathy Klump and Jenna Heaton posted the #1 and #2 times, respectively. Klump took the record in 2:03.35 while Heaton raced to a time of 2:09.34.
// HAISHA HEATING UP
The 800m runners were not the only Bearcats to post an all-time Top 10 mark as Bisiolu lowered her PR in the 200m dash for the second week in a row, this time running 23.60 to record the #5 time in UC history. Bisiolu opened her 200m racing last week in Tennessee where she ran 23.77 to lower her PR by 0.03 seconds before racing today to a PR of 0.17 seconds. She also ran the open 400m and turned in a season-best time of 54.66.
// EDWARDS ADDS NEW EVENT MARK
For the first time in his career, Austin Edwards ran the 200m dash and turned in an impressive time as the team’s top long jumper added to his impressive numbers, running 21.39 in his half lap debut, a time that is just 0.12 seconds off the program’s all-time Top 10 list. Edwards, who ran 10.44 in the 100m dash last week for the #3 time in UC history, also took part in the long jump and was second overall on the day with a best of 7.37m (24-02.25).
// LIGHTFOOT CONTINUES TO SHINE
Angelica Lightfoot continues to shine in the hurdles as she ran 14.19 in the preliminary round, which is 0.08 seconds off her best of 14.11 run last week, which is the #10 time in program history. She eventually placed seventh overall by running 15.00 in the final today. Although she didn’t get a PR in the hurdles, she did grab one in the long jump as she jumped 5.43m (17-09.75) to better her previous best by 1mm (was 5.42m). She was one of two Bearcats with PR in the long jump as Kennedy Marable recorded a PR of 5.33m (17-06.00).
// HIGH HURDLE ROOKIES
Staying in the hurdles, two rookie men had strong showing in the high hurdles on the day as both Connor Duricky and Isaiah McCall advanced to the finals in the 110m hurdles. Duricky ran 14.70 in the preliminary race, missing his PR by 0.05 seconds, before running 14.52 in the final to finish sixth overall and lower his PR by 0.13 seconds. McCall was the final qualifier to the final as he ran 15.08 in the preliminary race before clocking in at 14.87 in the final, just missing his PR by 0.02 seconds.
// CATHERINE CLAIMS CROWN
For the third time in four meets this year, Brooke Catherine won the women’s pole vault, this time clearing a best of 4.06m (13-03.75) to capture the crown. Although her streak of breaking her PR comes to an end at two weeks in a row, Catherine did clear 4m for the third week in a row.
// DEATON WITH BIG THROW
The final PR of the day came in the men’s shot put as Aaron Deaton hit a mark of 15.97m (52-04.75) to finish 10th overall on the day. His mark is a PR by 2.5” and also improved his season-best mark by 3’ 5.25” after entering the day with a best of 14.92m (48-11.50).
// ON DECK
