Vinny Mauri in Chicago, Let's Run says his training looks like Lydiard

Let's Run has an article where it claims John Kellogg is quoted as saying Mauri's training looks like Arthur Lydiard 2.0, but I disagree.

Mauri’s buildup looks almost absurd on paper. Before running 2:05 in Toledo, he averaged 97 miles per week at 5:54 pace. Over the last 10 weeks, that has increased to roughly 122 miles per week at 5:38 pace, much of it on a treadmill.

Rojo expected longtime LetsRun coaching guru John Kellogg might say Mauri was doing too much. Instead, Kellogg compared the approach to Arthur Lydiard: lots of running, much of it fairly quick, with Mauri figuring out what works for himself. And as Jonathan Gault pointed out, there is one rather important piece of evidence in Mauri’s favor: “You don’t run 2:05 by accident.”

Arthur as far as I recall was not big on treadmills and the pacing seems a little rich, but I could be wrong....

t 17, Kenyan 800 metre runner Angela Ndungwa Munguti received a four-year ban. She had tested positive for the banned performance-enhancing substance nandrolone. The law did what it was built to do, and that is to treat a teenager from a poor corner of Kenya as a doping offender in the eyes of sport, not a criminal in the eyes of the state.

Twenty-three-year-old Jadyn Keeler of Barrie, Ontario, broke the Canadian half-marathon record at the 2026 World Road Racing Championships in Copenhagen, clocking 1:08:03 in just her second race at the distance. Her only other half-marathon was a win at the national championships in Edmonton, Alberta on August 16.
