The North Korean Olympic Committee held a general assembly to discuss participation in the Tokyo Olympic Games and decided that participation was too risky due to COVID-19 concerns.
A statement on the federal website said that they want to protects the athletes.
Oddly, South Korea and North Korea agreed one week prior to joint bid on the 2032 Olympic Games.
In 1988, North Korea boycotted the Seoul Olympics.
Meanwhile, in London, UK, the London Marathon organisers are hosting the Reunion 10K in partnership with the government to collects data on hosting mass participation events. All attending the event will be required to take a COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction test before and after the race.
There will be three, 3000-person races happening on April 24 and 25. The Department for Digital, Media, Culture and Sport and the race organisers will collect data
Registration opens on Saturday, April 10. The races will take place at Hatfield Park in North London.
