Chijindu “CJ” Ujah was named to Great Britain’s 4×100-metre relay team for the 2024 Bahamas World Athletics Relays. For the first time since returning from a 22-month drug ban, he will be representing Great Britain at a global championship.

Ujah tested positive for two banned substances in a test taken at the 2020 (2021) Tokyo Olympic Games. The relay team was subsequently stripped of its Olympic silver medal.

At the time, team-mate Richard Kilty — who was also named in the eight-member team — said he would “never forgive” him for having to return his Olympic medal; awkward.

On Feb. 18, 2022, it was announced that Ujah and teammates Zharnel Hughes, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and Kilty would be stripped of their 4×100m silver medals. This was after the Court of Arbitration for Sport found Ujah guilty of the doping violation.

The in-competition test results showed the presence of a prohibited substance S-23 and Enobosarm. It was announced on Sept. 14, 2021, that his B sample was also positive. This confirmed that the initial test was positive, which resulted in the relay team being disqualified and losing their medals.

From Science Direct:

Anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) are testosterone and testosterone-derivative compounds sporadically employed by athletes and are increasingly used recreationally to acquire a competitive edge or improve body composition. S-23 and Enobosarm are both SARMS or selective androgen receptor modulators. They are both banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
