The International Olympic Committee (IOC) executive board suspended the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) on October 5 with immediate effect.
The IOC has decided that the ROC breached the Olympic Charter to do with its illegal attack on Ukraine.
The suspension is immediate and will continue until further notice.
ROC can no longer operate as an Olympic committee and will receive no funding from the IOC.
The IOC reserved the right to take further action.
The IOC executive board imposed the suspension on the ROC for a breach of the Olympic Charter — a book of rules and principles for international sports bodies — by incorporating sports councils in four regions in eastern Ukraine.
The suspension does not affect any Russians who are returning to compete in international sports as neutral athletes, including in some qualifying events for next year’s Paris Olympics.
Russian allegedly instigated the dispute last week by accepting the councils in Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia as its members.
