The rumours of an internal discussion about cancelling the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games are being denied by Japanese officials. On Friday, they denied a report suggesting that the Games, would be cancelled.
The Games were originally scheduled for 2020 however, were postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The local Olympic organizing committee said in a statement that the games are going forward. Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga supports that decision.
Apparently, The Times of London originally reported that the games will be cancelled.
This summer’s Games will be the second time that Tokyo has hosted the Olympics. Tokyo also hosted in 1964. For the 2021 edition, Sapporo, some 800K north on the island of Hokkaido, will host the two women’s and men’s marathon as well as race walk event.
