Tokyo Olympic 1500m bronze medallist from Great Britain Josh Kerr and Olympic finalist and Australian Ollie Hoare will go head to head during the WHOOP Men’s Wanamaker Mile at the 114th Millrose Games. The Millrose Games are part of the World Athletics Indoor Gold Tour, happening on January 29

Kerr became Great Britain’s second-fastest 1500m runner all-time with his 3:29.05 performance in Tokyo.

Kerr told World Athletics, “The Wanamaker Mile has always been a staple in my indoor season, there is no race like it. I’m rested and ready to get stuck in after a successful Olympics.”

Hoare finished in the 2020 Wanamaker Mile and reached the Olympic final in Tokyo.

“The Wanamaker Mile is one of the most prestigious indoor mile races in the world,” said Hoare. “To be able to go and compete again for the third time in this event is a privilege.

“Coach (Dathan Ritzenhein) and I are happy with where I am right now and I’m confident that I can take on whatever comes at me. Don’t be surprised if you see some very fast mile times come out of New York.”

Nick Willis, Clayton Murphy, Hobbs Kessler, Craig Engels, Andrew Coscoran, Charles Philibert-Thiboutot, Mario Garcia Romo, Henry Wynne, and Colby Alexander are also in.

Other top athletes so far announced for the Millrose Games include 2016 world indoor 60m champion Trayvon Bromell, world 100m hurdles record-holder Kendra Harrison, Olympic shot put champion Ryan Crouser, world shot put champion Joe Kovacs, Olympic 800m champion Athing Mu, Olympic pole vault champion Katie Nageotte and world indoor pole vault champion Sandi Morris.
