Sadly, another day, another Kenyan caught doping.
Esther Macharia, winner of several marathons and most recently, a fourth-place finish at the 2022 Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, MN in June, tested positive for the presence of testosterone. She is provisionally suspended and may appeal the ban.

The 35-year-old ran a new personal best in the event by clocking a 2:27:15. Her previous personal best was from the 2021 Cape Town Marathon, where she clocked a 2:29:17 performance.
According to her progression listed at World Athletics, she was unable to break the 2:30 barrier for 10 years of marathon running, then did so at age 33. None of her performances over shorter distances indicate the ability to run sub-2:30 including a 1:13:37 half-marathon personal best.
