Here is part of a Change.org petition seeking to allow St. Kitts and Nevis sprinter, Kim Collins to compete in the IAAF World Track and Field Championships. Apparently he was banned from competing for visiting his wife during the 2012 London Olympic Games. Below is the petition and a link to vote to reinstate the sprinter:
Kim Collins is a legend in track and field world. Unfortunately, last year, at the London Olympics, which was due to be Collins’s fifth, The St Kitts & Nevis Amateur Athletics Association (SKNAA) had Collins’s accreditation revoked. Collins had left the Olympic village to spend time with his wife due to feeling he wasn’t getting the required rest and recuperation in what was a hectic Olympic Village. Since the Olympic Games, SKNAA have refused to communicate with Collins to repair the damage which was done last year. The punishment was clearly unfair and unnecessary for an athlete of Collins’s experience and reputation. Collins, being an experienced athlete, was doing what he felt was best having competed in a career which has spanned over nearly 20 years. The SKNAA is refusing to selected Kim Collins despite the massive contribution he has made to his country in the Sport.
The IAAF should allow Kim Collins to compete for the following reasons:
– Kim Collins is currently the fastest athlete from St. Kitts & Nevis, this year and of all time, in the 100 meters. He has ran 9.97 seconds which is a Personal Best and National Record.
– He has ran under 10 seconds twice this year which no other athlete from his country has done.
– In winning the 100 meters at the 2003 World Championships, Collins brought positive global attention to his nation; The victory made it the first ever gold medal achieved by an St. Kitts & Nevis (SKN) athlete at the World Championships.
