The Nagoya Women’s Marathon announced Thursday that it will host some of the world’s best marathon runners at the 11th edition of the race happening Sunday, March 13, 2022.

Kenya’s Ruth Chepng’etich will be competing with fellow Olympian Lonah Salpeter of Israel. 

Domestically, Japan’s Yuka Ando who competed in the 10,000m event at the Tokyo Olympic Games is in. Additionally, so is the two-time second-place finisher of the Nagoya Women’s Marathon (2017 and 2020). As is Mirai Waku, who competed in the 2016 World Half Marathon Championships Cardiff, Whales.

Chepng’etich won the 2019 Doha World Athletics Championships marathon. The 27-year-old owns the Kenyan half-marathon record at one-hour, four-minutes, and two seconds (64:02) in a mixed race. There is also the category of records in women’s-only races.

Salpeter owns the national records for the half-marathon, marathon, 3000m, 10,000m, and one-hour race. Her 2:17:45 marathon is one of the all-time best results. She is the seventh-fastest marathon runner in history with the 10th fastest time. Chepng’etich is even faster at 2:17:08. She ran that time at the 2019 Dubai Marathon.

The 27-year-old Ando owns a best of 2:21:36 from the 2017 running of the Nagoya marathon.

The current world record is held by Kenyan Brigid Kosgei at 2:14:04.
