Norwegian police announced on Monday that Gjert Ingebrigtsen, father and former coach of 1500 metre Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen, will face charges of domestic violence.
In a shocking revelation in late 2023, brothers Jakob, Henrik and Filip Ingebrigtsen accused their father of domestic violence. The news was international.
Gjert Ingebrigsten has denied publically and through his lawyer all allegations against him.

“We grew up with a very aggressive and authoritarian father, who used physical violence and threats as part of our upbringing,” the brothers wrote in an op-ed for the newspaper VG. “We still feel a sense of discomfort and fear that we have felt since childhood.”
Norwegian police then began their investigation. On Monday, prosecutors announced their decision to charge Gjert Ingebrigtsen, aged 58, with domestic violence. It alleged that the charges were brought against Gjert concerning his daughter. All four are athletes.
Gjert Ingebrigtsen is accused of physically handling, verbally insulting, threatening, and striking her in the face.
Gjert Ingebrigtsen has not been granted accreditation to attend and coach at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, despite the fact that he coaches other athletes.
