The GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon is now the Royal Victoria Marathon. Naming sponsor GoodLife Fitness is no longer splashing their brand in the event’s marketing collateral.
The Victoria Marathon Society (Victoria, BC, Canada) announced through social media the change back to its original name. For 31 years the marathon was known as the Royal Victoria Marathon until 2010 when GoodLife Fitness acquired the title rights.
“There is no doubt that 2020 was a challenging year not just for the Victoria Marathon Society but for all races,” says Jonathan Foweraker, President. “Starting the year with the news that we are returning to the name Royal is exciting for us, and we hope for all our participants over the years. We know many still have great memories of the Royal Victoria Marathon, not to mention all of the memorabilia that came with it.”
The Society has its fingers crossed that the early October race will be back on without physical distancing protocols. The popular destination event happens on Canadian Thanksgiving, either the first or second Sunday of the month. Monday is a holiday.
Eastbourne Half Marathon
The Eastbourne Half Marathon is the latest casualty to the coronavirus pandemic.
Sunday, March 7, there was little prospect it could have survived in anything like its normal form, so, organisers decided to cancel that race altogether. The next running of the 17-year event is Sunday 6th March 2022.
Eastbourne, UK is a resort town on the southeast shore, located approximately 130K south of London and 20K east of Brighton.
2nd Annual Global Virtual One-hour Race
The event is back for year two. As per 2020, the race includes a team competition, uphill, downhill, and standard (or distance) divisions. Race as far as you can over one hour.
Runners have from March 1 to March 31 to submit their time, which must include visual proof with image, running app, or Strava recording. Race fee is a suggested donation amount of just $5.
Rudyard Kipling wrote: “If you can fill the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And—which is more—you’ll be a man, my son!” How about filling the unforgiving hour with 60 minutes worth of distance run?
