Yevgeny Yurchenko, the former president of the Russian Athletics Federation (RusAF) had walked away from the organization in July because they failed to pay the $6 million US portion of the $10 million fine levied against them by World Athletics.

He is now back as acting president until November 30, 2020, when the elections are held to bring in a new president.

World Athletics fined RusAF $10 million in March. The other option was to expel the organisation completely. Currently, they are suspended from international competition and have been since 2015.

On July 30, the World Athletics Council asked Congress that the organisation lose its membership.

RusAF has now avoided being removed by World Athletics after Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin, made an 11th hour, Hail Mary guarantee that the fine would be paid.

Apparently, RusAF paid the fine on Wednesday.

Yurchenko told TASS that it had paid World Athletics the $6.31 million.

The money came from the Russian Sports Ministry, so they will continue to be indebted to an organisation.
