Perhaps after Friday’s loss by Team USA to the hands of Team Germany during the FIBA World Cup of basketball, Lyles’ silence would be enough. Apparently, he didn’t think so. On X, which is the new name of Twitter, he mocked Team USA’s shocking defeat.
At one point, he posted, “World Champions of what?” However, he later removed the comment.
One post showed Lyles as Marvel Comic villain Thanos with, “They called me a madman,” while the other one showed Shannon Sharpe pointing demonstratively.

The 26-year-old said during a post-meet press conference, “You know what hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have ‘world champion’ on their head. World champion of what? The United States?”
Team USA lost 113 to 111 during the FIBA semi-finals.
The International Basketball Federation or FIBA World Cup is modelled after the FIFA World Cup of soccer. The tournament starts with 32 counties vying to be the best in the world. NBA players compete in FIBA, four were on Team Germany. The US has won the tournament five times in 18 editions since 1950, not including the 2023 tournament.
