| Calling all France’s athletics fans: The Meeting de Paris will make its grand comeback on Saturday, August 28 at the Charléty stadium. It’s set to be an unmissable meeting three weeks after the Olympic Games in Tokyo, during which the Olympic champions will endeavour to remain on their own little victorious cloud, whilst those who have been disappointed by their performances will be eager for revenge. The programme of festivities has now been revealed and it is the obstacle events that are due to take centre stage. Indeed, there’s a women’s 100m hurdles and a men’s 110m hurdles, one of France’s top specialities, on the cards, along with a women’s 400m hurdles and a men’s 3,000m steeplechase. The latter event has been reinstated on the event schedule for the Wanda Diamond League, as has the triple jump, the discus, the 200m, and the 5,000m, to the great delight of athletes the world over. In fact, the Wanda Diamond League formula will undergo a gentle facelift in 2021, since the final will now be held in a single location (albeit over two days), in Zurich, where the finals of the 32 events will be contested. Seven of these finals will be contested in the historic centre of the Swiss city, with the others being hosted in the Letzigrund stadium. The outright winner of each event will be awarded a cheque for 30,000 dollars, whilst the season’s best male and female athlete in each of the five separate families (sprint, hurdles, middle-distance, jumping, and throwing) will bag a 50,000-dollar bonus. Perfect timing for some top-flight performances prior to that, the finest spikes, the best high-flyers, and the sturdiest throwers in the world will have twelve stages and hence twelve chances to guarantee themselves a place in the battle to end all battles. The antepenultimate event of the season, the Parisian meeting occupies a choice slot in the event schedule and with it the guarantee of some really top-end times and measurements, both on the track and in the field.
