The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), in partnership with the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), followed a lead from a whistleblower to catch two-time world championships medallist Marvin Bracy-Williams.

The American 31-year-old sprinter tested positive for testosterone. Tampering was also identified; however, it was treated as one offence, as it happened in conjunction with the positive test. However, Bracy-Williams also happened to miss three tests over 12 months. The Whereabouts failure is equal to testing positive.

Bracy-Williams quickly admitted fault, and therefore his ban was shortened to 45 months (three years, nine months).

The Clermont, Florida, native was provisionally suspended in February 2024 for the positive test.

It was the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Orlando District Office, Miami Field Division, that discovered Bracy-Williams’ tampering.

“This case is also an example of the importance of cooperation between like-minded organizations and law enforcement agencies when it comes to eradicating organized doping schemes,” said USADA CEO Travis T. Tygart. “When the rules are applied as they should be, we can hold people accountable while also pursuing additional anti-doping rule violations and criminal charges. This investigation has already resulted in several impactful outcomes, which will be announced at a later date, as the overall investigation continues.”

Bracy-Williams is disqualified from any events that he competed in, dating back to July 2023.

The sprinter has not accomplished any noteworthy results since the 2022 Eugene World Athletics Championships, where he won two medals. He was part of the silver medal-winning team in the 4 x 100m relay and won a silver medal in the 100m dash, running a 9.88-second sprint.

His personal best in the 100m is 9.85 seconds.

The United States seems to have a doping problem in the sprints. Recently, Olympic medallists Erriyon Knighton and Fred Kerley have been sanctioned for doping.
