Hodgkinson draws crowd

Keely Hodgkinson of Great Britain raced in the final of the 2024 Paris Olympic 800-metre event taking gold. It was the most-watched event of the entire Olympic program according to the British Broadcasting Corporation.

After taking silver at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games as a 19-year-old, then silver again at both the 2022 Eugene and 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships and Birmingham Commonwealth Games, it was a long time coming.

Hodgkinson defeated Tsige Duguma of Ethiopia and Mary Moraa of Kenya in 1:56.72 to 1:57.15 and 1:57.42, respectively.

The last time that a female athlete earned gold in athletics at an Olympic Games was Jessica Ennis-Hill at the 2012 London Olympics in the heptathlon.
