On-site media

Media at your event

The media landscape is ever-evolving and is often complicated. Following the latest best practices and keeping up with the newest technologies is time-consuming and not within everyone’s capacity.

Athletics Illustrated publishes to a global audience as well as a hyper-local readership in Western Canada.

Partnering with Athletics Illustrated to cover your event is a way to ensure you have informed, specialised media on-site, reporting. Having media coverage at your event provides:

  • Legitimacy
  • Informs participants, spectators, volunteers, sponsors and various stakeholders
  • Takes the task of creating awareness off your shoulders
  • Provides independent research and storytelling as apposed to generating marketing collateral to “sell” a product or service (although marketing is important too).

“I have been directing races in Greater Victoria for over 40 years and Chris Kelsall has been a key part of them for the past 20 years or so. As a writer, he publishes excellent race reports for all of our eight annual club events.”

— Bob Reid, Race Director,
Prairie Inn harriers Running Club

We provide well-informed and thought-provoking editorial content with multi-media support, real news content, focused on your event.

Christopher Kelsall/Athletics Illustrated

I have over 30 years of media experience, as well as 20 years of event organisation. I have managed 36 track meets, eight cross-country meets, and two road races and volunteered at countless others. I know the race director’s stresses on race day. I was also on the organising committees of the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon (Royal Victoria), and played a key role in helping to organise the very successful 2020 Pan Am Cross Country Cup. I started and managed the nine-year-long Victoria Run Series (Victoria Track Series).”

I have managed Athletics Illustrated since 2011, written for Flotrack.org, contributing editor to Canadian Running Magazine for several years as well as countless others. For four years I operated Victoria Sports News.
