Jana Van Lent of Belgium improved her 10 km personal best (PB) to a new European record of 30:09. The performance is a minute faster than her previous PB and surpasses Eilish McColgan’s record of 30:19, set in 2022.
The race performance comes just three weeks after her fourth-place finish at the European Cross Country Championships in Portugal. The Prom Classic 10km took place on January 4 in Nice.
Her previous PB was 31:17. The 30:09 is a women’s-only race record, which is kept separate from records run in mixed races with men. Amazingly, it is faster than Paula Radcliffe’s mixed race European record of 30:21 from 2003.
The 24-year-old’s time is officially 30:10 by World Athletics.
Her personal best over 5000m is 14:37.47, set in August of this year. At the Prom Classic, Van Lent ran through 5km in 14:42.
McColgan will have the opportunity to take the record back on Sunday, January 11 in Valencia.
