The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has announced the provisional suspension of long-distance runner Hosea Kimeli Kisorio.
The AIU provisionally suspended the 2022 Braconi Terni Half Marathon champion for the presence or use of a prohibited substance (Erythropoietin, “EPO”).

Kisorio owns a marathon best of 2:17:01 from 2023 and a half-marathon best of 1:01:51 from 2015. Although he is Kenyan, all of his personal bests have been run in Italy.

Erythropoietin is a hormone that stimulates the production of red blood cells. EPO is produced naturally by the kidneys and liver, but it can also be produced artificially. EPO is used in the treatment of anemia, however, is one of, if not, the most used performance-enhancing substance in endurance sports.
