Audrey Werro from Switzerland took the 2026 European Athletics Championships 800 metres final in Birmingham on Friday, setting an event record.

She took the lead early and held onto it to the finish, never relinquishing.

The showdown between her, Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson and Femke Broeders-Bol from the Netherlands finished in that order.

  1. Audrey Werro – 1:54.81 CR
  2. Keely Hodgkinson – 1:55.01
  3. Femke Broeders-Bol – 1:55.54 =NR

Broeders-Bol improved the national record to 1:55.54, after easing to a sub-1:58 in the semis. Hodgkinson took silver in 1:55.01. She appeared to gain on Werro around the final bend, but did not have the kick over the final few metres.

Hodgkinson took the first 100 metres fast, but Werro took the lead and held it to the finish line
