Kenyans Kibiwott Kandie and Ruth Chepng’etich are featured athletes for the Barcelona Half Marathon. The two plan to improve the course records.

The event will take place on Super Bowl Sunday, February 11. Approximately 28,000 will toe the line at the 34th edition which is the second largest half marathon in all of Europe.

The current course records are 58:53 and 1:04:37, respectively.

Kandie likes Spain, as he happens to be the three-time champion of the Valencia Half Marathon. The 27-year-old has run as fast as 57:32, which is the national record and second fastest time in history behind Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei and his 57:31 from the 2021 running of the Lisbon Half Marathon. Kandie set his mark at the 2020 Valencia event.

Ruth Chepng’etich set her mark at the 2021 Istanbul Half Marathon. It is the third-fastest performance in history at 1:04:02.
