From 2019 World Athletics Championships gold to dead last in the U.S. Olympic Trials, Donavan Brazier shocks the U.S. running community Monday night.

The U.S. record holder’s kick failed him during the final 200m. He finished more than than four seconds behind winner Clayton Murphy. Brazier is out of the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Brazier had mentioned that some things were bugging him and he was injured earlier in the year. Tactically, he admitted that he made his move too early.

The 24-year-old owns a best of 1:42.34, which is the American record for the distance, which he achieved at the Doha World Championships. The Grand Rapids, MI native is currently coached by Pete Julien with Nike and was formerly coached by Pat Henry. He graduated from Texas A&M in 2015 after an outstanding collegiate career.
