Twenty-eight-year-old Ethiopian Zinash (Zinah) Gerado Senbeta has been provisionally suspended by the German National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) following an in-competition test on April 3. The Athletics Integrity Unit lists the athlete for testing positive for exogenous steroids after IRMS.
She was tested at the Generali Berliner Half-Marathon held in Berlin, Germany and has been subsequently suspended for 18 months.
Senbeta holds a marathon personal best of 2:21:05 from the 2023 Ljubljana Marathon. Last year, she raced the Mexico City Half Marathon in July and the Buenos Aires Half Marathon in August.
Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (IRMS) is an advanced analytical technique used to measure the ratios of stable isotopes in blood. It determines the origin, source, or history of samples—such as food, environmental, or forensic samples—by identifying their unique “isotopic fingerprint.
There is little other information known about the positive test and provisional suspension at this time; however, the Athletics Integrity Unit will likely report on the outcomes from a possible appeal.
