Wyatt Larkins delivered the throw of his life on day three of the World Athletics U20 Championships, earning bronze in the men’s hammer throw (6 kg) with a personal best of 75.38 metres on his opening attempt. The 19‑year‑old’s first-round mark held through the duration, securing the first medal of the meet for the Novuna Great Britain & Northern Ireland team.
“I came in ranked 12th. I got a PR; it was pretty good,” Larkins said. “My first round was great; it was a PR, solid throw. All of my throws were over my previous PR, so it was a great battle. It’ll always have a place in my heart. I wasn’t even planning to go on the podium, so this is a massive bonus. Hopefully it’s a great motivator for me, and hopefully I can get some more medals in the future.”
In the men’s 3000 metres, Liam Conway carved ten seconds off his previous best, racing to a heroic fourth-place finish in 7:50.10. Teammate Michael Clark also contested the event, placing 13th.
Shaikira King advanced to the women’s 800‑metre final with authority, clocking 2:02.93, the second-fastest time of the semifinals. In the women’s 400‑metre final, Casey Musgrave placed eighth in 53.07, closing out a strong week in Eugene.
Ava James lined up in the 3000‑metre steeplechase final and delivered a determined effort for 13th place.
Daniel Emegbor booked his spot in the men’s long jump final with a 7.59‑metre leap.
Samuel Newton sits 21st after five events in the decathlon, accumulating 3767 points.
In the men’s 800 metres, Matthew McKenna and Josh Mungin each finished fourth in their respective semifinals, both missing the final by less than a second.
Toby Wright and Sophie Thomas advanced through their heats in the men’s 110‑metre hurdles and women’s 200 metres. Wright later ran a season’s best 13.42 for fifth in his semi, while Thomas — after winning her heat in 23.53 — also placed fifth in her semifinal.
In the men’s 200 metres, Mayo Alabi and Jake Odey‑Jordan progressed from the heats. Alabi went on to finish seventh in the semifinal; Odey‑Jordan did not start after advancing.
