Louis Marmar Maruk of Port Moody, British Columbia, a Ugandan refugee, ran the Royal Victoria Marathon in 2:24:28 for the win. It was a breezy, cool-to-mild day on October 12th for the 45th running of the race.

Despite running alone for 35 km of the race, he managed to run well in the wind; however, did start too fast, going 2:09 pace for the first 10km, then began to gradually slow to 2:11 through to 2:17, before hanging on over the final two kms, which includes several 45-degree-angle turns.

Kip Kangogo of Lethbridge, Alberta, at age 46, began to close the gap, to finish second and break the course 45-49 age-group record, finishing in 2:25:04
