Jamaican long jumper, Carey McLeod, has been banned from racing for a period of two years starting May 28, 2026, for Whereabouts Failures.
McLeod missed tests on June 30, 2025, August 9, 2025 and May 1, 2026, which are three tests within 12 months.
The first missed date was for an availability while he was in St. Andrew, Jamaica. He was not there for the 60-minute window that his Athletics Biological Passport (ABP) indicated. McLeod did not respond to concerns over his missed test.
His second missed test was more interesting, as he flip-flopped between Arkansas, USA and Budapest, Hungary, with his testing windows open at the opposite locations.
As per the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU):
“This meant that for 9 August 2025, the Athlete’s overnight accommodation address (i.e., his address for the period beginning at 23:00 on 9 August 2025 and ending at 05:00 on 10 August 2025) was in Arkansas, USA, but his 60-minute time slot for the next day (beginning at 05:00) was in Budapest, Hungary. Furthermore, the Athlete’s overnight accommodation for 11 August 2025 was at an address in Budapest, Hungary, but his 60-minute time slot for the
next day (beginning at 05:00) was in Arkansas, USA.”
For the August 12th date, he was competing in the World Athletics Continental Tour in the Gyulai Istvan Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix in Budapest, Hungary, yet his ABP indicated he was in Arkansas.
Again, McLeod did not bother to respond to the doping control officer, nor the opportunity to attend a review, strike two.
The third test was to happen in Clarendon, Jamaica, and again, McLeod was not available.
He admitted fault with the three tests and accepted his suspension and the removal of certain results during the period in question.
McLeod owns a personal best long jump of 8.40m. He finished fourth at the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships. He earned bronze in the Glasgow World Indoor Championships. The 28-year-old has lept 8.52m with a 5.2m/second tailwind, so 8.40m stands as his PB.
