Jane Hedengren whipped up another 3000 metres record on Saturday. She raced in Eugene, Oregon, at Hayward Field, finishing in 8:40.03, bettering her previous record of 8:40.99 from two weeks prior.

“Depending on how I was feeling, I wanted to close it out strong and get those lights at the end there. It was much more of a battle than I anticipated, but I’m here for it, and I just wanted to maximize that effort today,” She told the media after the race.

Hedengren had also entered Sunday’s mile at Nike Outdoor Nationals, but later scratched.

She now owns every American high school record from the 1,600 metres to the 5000 metres.

The timers set up a timing mat at 2000m, and she apparently broke that national high school Best Known Time, on the way during the 3000m race.

The Provo, Utah, high school student from Timpview High will move on to Brigham Young University in September, which is also located in Provo.
