Athletics fans keeping track of the rate of Kenyan suspensions can now add the name of Reuben Kiprop Kipyego to the list. He has been provisionally suspended for missing three out-of-competition tests within a 12-month period. The missed tests is equal to testing positive for banned performance-enhancing drugs.

Athletes agree to a scheduled visit and have to be available for a 60-minute window. Kipyego’s first missed test within these three was on September 8, 2023. He no-showed again on January 5, 2024 and March 12.
Kipyego was either expected any at an agreed-upon address or had recently moved but never contacted the AIU to establish a new location and time. After the third test, well into March 2024, the AIU asked for an explanation, he did not reply or give one. Therefore, the AIU was forced to suspend the truant athlete.
He is now provisionally suspended backdated to March 27, 2024 and can appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
