Isaiah-Kiplagat

Athletics Kenya is in the process of bidding to host the World Youth Championships in Nairobi in 2017. The bidding process started in March 2014 when Athletics Kenya submitted to IAAF a letter of intent to host the Championships in Nairobi. The President Athletics Kenya, Isaiah F. Kiplagat was delighted to announce  that the IAAF accepted the letter of intent together with two other countries the USA and Argentina.

Athletics Kenya is optimistic while bidding for this event especially because of its success in the world of athletics. Kenya as nation stands to gain a lot by winning this bid which will bring the whole world into Nairobi. We expect to host over 150 countries with over 1,500 athletes taking part in the Championship. Having hosted the World Cross Country Championship in Mombasa in 2007 and the Africa Athletics Championship in 2010, we believe that we have the necessary expertise and infrastructure to host a world event.
