It is suspected that Thompson is dealing with a hamstring issue.
The Rome Diamond League features one of the best lineups of the 2024 Diamond League season.
Also in the race are Fred Kerley, Ferdinand Omanyala, Christian Coleman and Marcell Jacobs. Kerley earned the bronze medal. He clocked in at 9.81s in a season-best performance in Paris. The win to Lyles was in a virtual tie with Thompson at 9.79s. Marcell Jacobs, the Tokyo champion finished fifth in 9.85 seconds. He feels losing to Lyles in Paris was a tactical error.
Letsile Tebogo, who earned gold in the 200m event, finished sixth in the 100m. But it was nearly a blanket finish in one of, if not the most thrilling finish in 100m sprint history.
