On Sunday, September 29, “Olympic Day Run” Greece, the unique official Olympic running event of the country, returns and gives the starting signal for the global celebration of the International Olympic Day 2024.

For the seventh consecutive year, the heart of the global institution (Olympic Day) will beat loudly in Thessaloniki, gathering thousands of foreign and Greek runners, regardless of age, gender and physical condition, who will run along with Olympians, Paralympians, decorated athletes, sports clubs and associations from all over the country in the new most enjoyable and certified by AIMS routes.

At the same time, on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the International Olympic Committee’s (1894) establishment and the decision to revive the 1st Olympic Games (ATHENS 1896), “Olympic Day Run” Greece expands its program and pioneers with the half marathon Olympic race. The route of the half marathon will cover, for the first time, the entire coastal axis of the city, creating an enjoyable route, and overlooking the most important historical and tourist landmarks of the city.

In addition, a plentiful multi-day program of concurrent activities based on the Olympic values will accompany the Olympic race, attracting runners, associations, families and visitors from all places of the country and the world. The concurrent program of the seventh “Olympic Day Run” Greece follows the Olympic triptych “sports, culture, education” through the actions: “Family Run+Fun” (race for families), “Olympic Day Park” (activity park for children, teenagers and families), “Olympic Day: The Music Concert.”

The running event includes a half marathon and 10km for adults, 5km for adults and teenagers and 1.5km for all ages. All runners who finish will be awarded with a commemorative medal and a participation diploma by the International and Hellenic Olympic Committees, while the winners will receive the special prizes of the seventh ”Olympic Day Run” Greece.

The ”Olympic Day Run” Greece is the official global institution for International Olympic Day’s celebration, established by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the organizing authority of the Olympic Games, with the aim of conveying the Olympic ideal. The global celebration (Olympic Day) for the establishment of the IOC and the decision to organize the 1st Modern Olympic Games (ATHENS 1896), honours Greece internationally as the birthplace of the Olympic Games, raising the country on the global Olympic and tourist map.

The seventh “Olympic Day Run” Greece is organized by the Thessaloniki Olympic Museum, in cooperation with the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the International Olympic Academy, the Hellenic Olympians Association, the Hellenic Athletics Association of Thessaloniki, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Municipality of Kalamaria and the I.
