Approximately 10,000 registered runners from ages 12 to 93 took to the streets of the San Jose this weekend to participate in the 13th running of the Michelob Rock ‘n’ Roll San Jose Half Marathon. With a renewed focus on the core pillars of great music in a community environment, runners of all athletic levels enjoyed the sights and sounds of the Silicon Valley.

The best-in-class running event kicked off on Saturday morning with a 5K and kids race through downtown. The half marathon and 10K took place on Sunday, with runners from 46 states and 21 countries taking off on a tour of San Jose starting at W. Santa Clara St. at N. Almaden Ave.

In the half marathon, Sid Vaughn (Boulder, Colo.) won the race with his first-place effort clocking a time of 1:03:35. Shadrack Biwott (Flagstaff, Ariz.) was second with a time of 1:04:04. Bijan Mazaheri (Pasadena, Calif.) followed right behind in third place finishing in 1:04:08. Maegan Krifchin (New York, New York) was the women’s champion with a final time of 1:12:49 with Sydney Devore (Rochester Hill, Mich.) next behind her at 1:14:44. Nicole DiMercurio (Blowing Rock, N.C.) rounded out the podium in 1:16:33.

Elite runners and fast times aside, Sunday’s races were all about the party atmosphere. Several local bands, like The Honey Wilders, performed live on improved band stages along the route interspersed with cheerleaders and themed water stations. Participants moved along to more music than ever with all new mile-markers that included speakers and race pacers who ran with mobile speaker packs.

The musically themed road race celebrated the day’s accomplishments with the sounds of the MarchFourth, a marching band that incorporates music and performance to the stage as the Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series headliner.
