American sprinter, Sha’Carri Richardson, won the 100-metre championship at the USATF Olympic Track and Field Trials on Saturday night. Doing so, she secured a spot on Team USA for this summer’s Paris Olympic Games. Richardson recorded a season-best and world-leading time for 2024 at 10.71 seconds.

Richardson wants to be at the Olympics, especially so, after having been suspended from the Tokyo Games in 2021 for a positive drugs test for cannabis.

The 24-year-old, Dallas, Texas native became quite emotional after making the team, despite qualifying be a high likely as the qualification standard is 11.07 seconds.

In Saturday night’s race, Melissa Jefferson finished second in 10.80 seconds, and Twanisha Terry was third in 10.89 seconds. They will join Richardson in Paris.

Richardson is also set to compete in the 200m on Thursday. She will also be a member of the 4x100m relay team.
