Former Ethiopian refugee and current Dutch runner Sifan Hassan will be racing four events at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

She will contest the 1500-metre event with three rounds, the 5000m with two rounds, the one-off 10,000m and the marathon.

On August 2nd Hassan will race the opening round of the 5000m. The following day, the opening round of the 1500m. Two days later, on the 5th of August, the 31-year-old will race the 5000m final. This race will likely be against two of the greatest in Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay and Faith Kipyegon of Kenya. Three days later, she will race the semi-final in the 1500m. If — and she likely will — makes the final, it takes place on August 10. On the 9th, one day after her semi-final 1500m race, Hassan takes on the 10,000m. The day after the 1500m final, she races the marathon.

Some history

During the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games, she raced three events and won three medals, two gold and one bronze. Hassan won gold in the 10,000m clocking 29:55.32. She also earned gold in the 5000m going 14:36.79 and bronze in the 1500m in 3:55.86. Hassan even tripped during round 1 of the 1500m and got up to win the race.

She won two gold during the 2019 Doha World Athletics Championships. She won the 1500m and 10,000m becoming the first man or woman to do so. Hassan earned silver and bronze during the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships. She also won bronze in 2015 Beijing and 2017 London championship events.

Hassan holds the world record in the one-hour race going as far as 18,930m or 18.930 km / 11.76 miles. She holds 10 European or Dutch records all told.
