“Failure is the rent you pay for success.”
— Ethiopian proverb
The Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) conducted age verification tests. This included MRI scans on its athletes ahead of the African U18 and U20 Championships. Of the original 76 athletes screened, only 22 were cleared to compete: Six male and 16 female.
The meeting is scheduled for July in Nigeria.

The results of the age test for athletes representing Ethiopia in the youth championship have been announced by the EAF. The EAF has conducted a check of the age of athletes competing in the meet in Abeokuta. The events starts July 16 and runs until July 20, 2025.
Forensics and MRI
The EAF conducted the checkup on 76 athletes at the Ethiopian police hospital in the forensic medicine and anesthesia department.
The test was done on the basis of birth, MRI, educational level, overall body growth and posture. Also, the growth of teeth and the development level. The testing was done by Raj Imaging. The age test was done by forensic medicine and toxicology specialists of the hospital.
Based on the age test, they found:
1) Among the male athletes registered under 18 years, there are zero under 18 years of age. There were four athletes under 20 years of age have been confirmed by the age test.
2) Among the female athletes registered under 18 years, only two athletes are under 18 years. And nine athletes are under 20 years.
3) It has been confirmed that out of the registered male athletes under 20 years old, only two athletes are under 20.

One could suppose that teenage Ethiopians cannot afford to pay rent on the way to success.
