While the International Olympic Committee (IOC) grapples with the postponement and rescheduling of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games to sometime in 2021, the European Athletics Executive Board is asking organizers for this summer’s European Athletics Championships to pursue all possible outcomes for the event.

During a two-day vide conference the executive board instructed the committee of championships that were due to take place in Paris to conduct an immediate and detailed feasibility study of the event.

The meet was to take place from Aug. 25 to Aug. 30.

There are currently 493,650 cases, 22, 202 deaths and 119, 785 recovered from Covid-19 according to Worldmeters.com.

According to IOC President Thomas Bach, “rescheduling should not be restricted to the summer months” and suggested that all options were on the table after the event was delayed to 2021.

He assembled a task force called “Here We Go”, which is made up of the IOC Coordination Commission and the Organizing Committee was established to deal with the challenges of postponement.

Bach said a decision on when the event should happen can be made “as soon as possible” and revealed the organization will hold talks with the governing bodies of all 33 sports on the Tokyo 2020 program on Friday, Feb. 27.
