Eighteen-year-old American high school student Jane Hedengren ran the 5000 metre distance in a time of 14:57.93 on Thursday.
She was competing at the Cougar Athletic Stadium in Azusa, CA. The race was part of the 2025 Bryan Clay Invitational. Hedengren finished in third place. Kenyan Pamela Kosgei, who was running for the University of New Mexico, won in 14:52.45. Taking second was Lexy Halladay-Lowry with BYU clocking 14:52.93. So, she is a high schooler keeping up with university-level athletes.

The performance was a personal best and an NCAA record for the 20-year-old Kosgei. Halladay-Lowry’s run was a lifetime personal best.
During the race, Halladay-Lowry and Hendengren shared the lead at various times. The latter unselfishly created a wind break with her height and smooth running for long stretches.
Over the final two laps, it was Halladay-Lowry and Kosgei who gradually began to creep away from Hedengren. This continued down to the final metres, where the two unleashed furious kicks. Kosgei edged Halladay-Lowry just before the finish line.
Wavelight technology was employed.
