Abdi Nageeye will defend his TCS New York City Marathon title on Sunday, 2 November 2025.

In 2024, the Olympic marathon silver medallist from Tokyo surged to a 2:07:39 sprint finish in Central Park to take his long-awaited first Abbott World Marathon Majors victory and become the first ever Dutchman to win in New York.

Earlier this year, Nageeye broke his Dutch marathon record with a time of 2:04:20 at the TCS London Marathon. In New York, the experienced Dutchman will line up for the 25th marathon of his career.

“There’s nothing quite like running the TCS New York City Marathon; it’s the biggest and the greatest marathon in the world,” said Nageeye. “I’m coming back for the fifth consecutive year, and this year is extra special because I’m coming back as the defending champion. I really can’t wait.”

Abdi Nageeye was born on March 2, 1989, in Dharwanaaje, Somalia.

At the age of six, he was resettled as a refugee in the Netherlands. After spending four years in the country, he then lived with his family in Syria and Somalia. Nageeye returned to the Netherlands via Ethiopia and was adopted by a family in Oldebroek.
