Ahmed, now 34, is the Canadian record holder in the 5000m and 10,000m distances. His records stand at 12:47.20 and 26:34.14 from 2020 and 2022, respectively. Ahmed also holds the national record for the 5000m indoors or “short track” at 12:56.87. The St. Catharines, Ontario native also holds the Canadian 3000m record at 7:31.96 and the Best Known Time (not an official record) for the two-mile run at 8:13.16.

Ahmed earned a silver medal during the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games and a World Championships bronze from the 2019 Doha meet. During the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, he picked up two silver medals, one each in the 5000m and 10,000m events.

In 2022, Schumacher became the head coach for the University of Oregon’s track and field and cross-country teams and moved the Bowerman group from Portland to Eugene, OR.

Meanwhile, Smith stepped down as the Director of Cross Country and Track and Field at NAU at the end of the 2024-2025 academic year, to start up Swoosh TC.

Nike launched Swoosh TC in February 2025.

As Swoosh is located in the popular training community of Flagstaff, Arizona, Ahmed may be moving from Eugene to the popular high-altitude town, where many of the top North American athletes live or visit for training purposes.
