The Ethiopian Athletics Federation has approved to provide $121,000USD to help its athletes deal with the financial strain during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The funds will also be directed to coaching and administration staff.
Former marathon world record holder (2:03:59) Haile Gebrselassie donated $50,000 dollars to fight the pandemic in Ethiopia.
Meanwhile, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has indicated that Sapporo, Japan will remain the venue for the men’s and women’s marathons and race walk events.
While nearly half of the athletes and teams still need to qualify for the 2021 Olympics, age restrictions will be relaxed. For example, football was a U23 tournament within the games. Teams will now be permitted to have three at the age of 23 or over – something that Athletics Illustrated feels would be difficult to police of third world countries, where age cheating in athletics has long been suspected.
Rescheduled:
The TCS World 10K Bengaluru 2020 a Gold Label race, has been rescheduled from its current date of May 17 to September 13, 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Postponing the TCSW10K Bengaluru was bowing to the inevitable. It is just not possible to stage a race in currently prevailing conditions. Pushing the race date four months forward allows plans to be made with confidence for a race that is likely to be more competitive than ever,” said Hugh Jones, race director.
