More than 400 runners from over 40 countries are going to toe-the-line in Friday’s Dubai City Half Marathon, which typically sees nearly 3000 participants. However, it is the first of its size for a gathering in Dubai since the Covid-19 pandemic was declared in March 2020.

The race is organised by the Dubai Sports Council. The event will be held at the Dubai International Financial Centre and will see athletes compete in three different categories: 5K, 10K, and 21.1K. The start and finish lines are located in front of the Sports Council building.

The half-marathon will feature various measures to ensure safety protocols are in place. Organisers have called in experts from Great Britain to draft safety measures.

The inaugural event in 2019 saw more than 2,500 participants take part in Mai Dubai City Half Marathon, but given the circumstances, the organisers decided to limit entries for this year’s run to ensure participants enjoy the event in a safe manner.
