Takele Tadese and Sutume Kebede of Ethiopia won the 2025 Tokyo Marathon.
Tadese finished in 2:03:23, while Sutume clocked in at 2:18:31. For Tadese, the performance was a once-second personal best. He came into the race with a 2:03:24 best from the 2023 Berlin Marathon. The 22-year-old is a U20 world record holder, which he set in the 3000m steeplechase in 2021 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Nairobi, KEN. He clocked an 8:33.15.

For the 30-year-old Kebede, she was a little off her best, which is 2:15:55 from the 2024 running of the Tokyo Marathon, which she won.
Finishing in second place in the men’s race was fellow Ethiopian Deresa Geleta with his 2:03:51 finish. Taking third was Kipkemoi Vincent Ngetich clocked a 2:04:00 performance. Twenty-six finished sub-2:10:00
Behind Kebede were Kenyan Moseti Winfridah Moraa running a 2:16:56 time. Ethiopian Feysa Hawi finished four seconds back 2:17:00. Fourteen women ran sub-2:30:00.
